Remote AUV Field Test Campaign of prototype # 3 - Summer 2025: (click on Autonomous Underwater Vehicle tab)

During this summer 2025 campaign, we conducted multiple controlled pool dives to confirm stable system integration, PID response, and sensor functionality. Additionally, we performed open-water validation in Long Island Sound at depths of 10 to 12 feet, ensuring full subsystem operation, including control, logging, video, and depth, under real-world hydrodynamic conditions. This testing phase is crucial for validating the performance and reliability of our future AUV prototypes.

Planned upgrades for Prototype # 4 - Summer 2026 scheduled for implementation:

Additional port and starboard thrusters will provide horizontal maneuvering capability and improved heading control. The system upgrade will also incorporate an underwater ultrasonic obstacle avoidance sensor to enhance navigation safety and environmental awareness. Replace MPU-6050 6-DOF module with Adafruit 9-DOF absolute orientation IMU to obtain absolute heading.  Corresponding software updates will include the development and integration of horizontal control algorithms and real-time obstacle avoidance logic to support fully autonomous operation.
